Sony extends its partnership with AMD to develop technologies based on artificial intelligence that improve graphics and gameplay in games, not only on PlayStation, but also on other devices.

The collaboration, announced by the chief architect of the PS5, Mark Cerny, aims to create a “deeper collaboration” in automatic learning technologies, focusing on graphics and improved game.

The partnership already exists in PS5 and PS5 PRO GPUs, which use the RDNA 2 architecture of AMD. The PS5 PRO, for example, has the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution function (PSSR), which improves image clarity and image frequencies.

  • Cerny also revealed details on the “Amethyst” project, a long -term collaboration between companies, the objective of which is to optimize automatic learning architecture, in particular in the use of light neural networks (CNN) for game graphics.
  • Another objective is to create a high quality CNNS set for graphics.
  • Networks can improve the visual quality of games and extend the use of technologies such as tracing rays and paths tracing.

The developed technology will not be unique in PlayStation and can be applied to PCs, consoles and cloud devices. However, the implementation of the results of the Amethyst project can take years, possible innovations that appear only in future equipment, such as PlayStation 6, from 2028.
